A very sad day

This morning we lost Tula, the little tiny lamb.  She was fine last night but this morning she was non responsive.  Her belly was full of milk though, and felt kind of bloated.  I treated her for bloat with no success.  I ran her to the vet and unfortunately she died on the exam table.  They felt that she had some underlying infection because she was eating well, but her digestion had shut down.  I know that she was tiny and weak from the beginning, but that doesn't make it any easier to lose her.

In honour of Tula's life, I will postpone the results of the naming contest.  It is not a time for celebrating today.

Run free, tiny girl.  The flock of Artaius welcomes you.

  1. I am so sorry, she was such a sweet little thing. So sad to lose any animal but, one that you had cared for so closely is especially difficult. My thoughts are with you.

  3. Claire, I'm so very sorry. She had a very happy couple of weeks with you, much more than if you hadn't taken her under your wing. I know how hard it is to lose an animal, especially one so adorable. I hope the others remain strong.

  4. So sorry Claire- you certainly did all you could for the wee one. Artaius will be lucky to gain such a sweet tiny soul for his flock.

  5. So sorry, Claire. You're right, no matter how long (or not-so-long) our critters are with us, it's sad.

  7. I am heartbroken for you. You did everything, and then some- from the moment you brought her inside as your house baby to her last hours-to take care of her.
A sad day, indeed. I guess it is what we humans sign up for when we give our hearts to our animals.

  8. oh darn, we are so sorry. we will tell gerald as soon as we find him. the human mourns with you. there is nothing harder than losing an animal that you personally took care of. may the little one find many green pastures to run free in.

  12. I hestitated to click on the blog.

I was trying to think back. A pair was born? right? She and her large brother both died? from the same mother? shucks, so sad.

  16. Seeing her lying in the sun, with her too-short, two-week lifespan spelled out below, was what sent me over the soggy edge. I am so very sorry....

  21. Oh, poor little baby. It's hard to lose an animal, but seems so much worse when it's a baby. I'm very sorry for your loss.
