Danger of...what?!

Yesterday, Richard kindly took me out to dinner and movie, after working on projects at the house for the day.  Back in Iowa, I used to enjoy frequent dinners out with friends, but here, there is really nowhere to go, and nobody to go with.  That makes me sad, but I'm trying to get used to it and to forget the way things used to be.

Last night was an exception - we went to a small city about 30 minutes drive away which has a nice pub.  It's not fabulous, but it's OK, all things considered.  Had a nice supper and then a few minutes to wait before the movie.  We went for a short stroll around the downtown area, which was nice because at the farm, I can't go outside for strolls because the bugs are insanely bad.  I literally have to run to and from my car to the front door to avoid bites.  In the city though, it was not a problem.  How nice to be able to be outside!

Anyway, I cracked up when I saw this sign...
Apart from the fact that it was a hot summer day, reducing the chances of falling ice considerably, you have to look closely to see why I was reduced to giggles upon reading it.  I don't generally condone graffiti, but this was in pencil, and was...well, just really funny.  Here's the close up, in case you can't read it!
So, watch out for falling mice next time you're out on a walk!

Not sure where you are located geographically speaking but you should consider installing a gourd post with approximately 6-8 gourds for Purple Martins.

These beautiful, graceful, flying machines would rid your lot in the country of all of those annoying pests that you made mention of that bombard you when walk outside.

These birds would make a huge impact on those nuisance insects while they themselves make the best of tenants.

You should consider this. By the way, thanks for sharing...the sign is too neat.

So very wonderful to see you SMILING!!!!! Now, then, I don't kow if you have Purple Martins, but surely there is some kind of bird in your area that is an insect eater you could cultivate. What a wonderful idea Chris had. And how about bats? Build them some shelters. Those little guys are phenomenal at taking out the bugs...and swallows! I say go for the birds and the wing-ed things!

So please to have come across your post. You sound wonderful. I hear a tiny sparkle in your voice.
I agree with the purple martins and the bats, we had bats a few years ago, I loved watching them at dusk, you couldn't even tell they were bats they fly so fast. We lived in town (yea, like a small iowa town) the were skeeters on the other side of the street and not one on out side.
Keep up with the writing editing.. sounds like it helps you move forward career-wise.

Hi Clair,

I've just spent several days reading from the first post to now - reason? I came across a post of yours and you/your life was so interesting that I wanted to get a fuller picture of how it all came about.

I definitely did not expect some of the things that happened. I have so much admiration for you; your creative abilities, your willingness to show some of the less-pretty aspects of your life, your love for all animals...I could go on for a very long time.

I hope that when you are hurting and alone (not the kind of alone that introspectives want) you are able to really tap into the huge amount of caring and support that we, on the outside of your life, feel for you. It's a global village, not unlike that old villages where people stood by each other. In it's own way, just as real in intent, even if not as helpful in actual labor and such.

You don't know me of course, so I don't send hugs, but I do send my strongest hopes for your happiness.

We went to the Port Pub recently in Port Williams. It's a little upscale but the food is reasonably priced. The chocolate cheesecake was to die for.

I never go outside in the summer without a mouse helmet. It's just common sense.

Hiya, Claire! I was so glad to have found you again - for some reason you've been on my mind, then when I couldn't find you or LN on FB, I tried a search and re-found your blog.
I took time out from my blog (the Sheep Thrills Farm one) as well. I think it's been a rough year for many of us - I have had to deal with some major thyroid issues that make most of the past year a blur.
I do hope you're doing well (better or at least holding on!) and you can come up for air once and a while.
Many hugs from the SW US!
