Bramble, I hardly knew you

O Goddess, let her Spirit fly
May she find peace in the Summer Lands,
May her body nurture your Earth.

Today is a sad and frustrating day. Today, my favourite lamb, dear little Bramble, was called by Mother Earth to return to the great flock. She had been the runt of twins - her brother Sven growing bigger and stronger every day. He is a handsome ram lamb and a bundle of energy. Bramble was soft and quiet, not often with the other lambs, and rarely playful. She was my favourite because I could easily pick her up and cuddle her. I did my best for her, giving her extra grain, extra greens, and allowing her quiet time by herself so that she could eat when she wanted without the bigger lambs pushing her away. Sadly, she was but a short gift.

You have been called from the place of your dwelling,
May blessed soul-friends guide you,
May helping spirits lead you,
May the Gatherer of Souls call you,
May the homeward path rise up under your feet
And lead you gladly home.

Oh, that's so sad! Did you give her a bose shot when she was born? Lambs can be such fragile little things.

So sorry for your loss. It seems like a day of loss for too many of us. My little ewe lamb is in my lap hanging on by a thread.

I'm so sorry to hear you last my Bramble's namesake. I lost a lamb this year, too, and still have no idea what we were dealing with. It's hard, hard, hard.

Oh Claire I am so sorry. Do you know what was wrong? A BoSe shot now for the ohter lambs is not a bad idea. This is the first year I gave them at the recommendation of my vet. She said a lamb can be running and playing and just drop with no warning to white muscle disease.

Sorry, Claire. We get so used to all the happy stories, it's easy to forget some just don't make it. And it's so much harder when they're so gosh-darned cute!

Oh no...She was my favorite too...Such a sweet little thing...But she had the look of one who would come and beam some love and leave softly and quickly. I've had those sweet little visitors in my life too. It's so hard to say goodbye but you know they were here for a reason, if only for a little while. I'm sending you my love...mare

That's the hardest thing for me about having livestock and pets on the farm. All we can do as good stewards is to give them the best lives that we possibly can while they reside under our care.

I'm so sorry about little Bramble. Why is it always our favorite ones who leave?! But then perhaps it is because we somehow intuitively sense their frailty that we want to nurture and love them so much.

I guess nature often takes over faster than we can sometimes, and in the long run, it might have been for the best to prevent Bramble suffering down the road. Could have been white muscle disease like some have said, not fun. You cared for her well though.
