Friday's Hunt v. 2.20

Time keeps on rolling and here we are having Friday again! Our prompts from Eden Hills are: Starts with T, Week's Favourite, and Rule of Thirds.

Starts with T
This is one of our two new guinea pigs - his name is Toffee.  I'll be doing a blog about our guinea pigs later this week!

Week's Favourite
I really like this picture I took of a cat-tail rush that has gone to seed.  It definitely has a feeling of fall and the end of the growing season about it, but it also suggests at warm fuzzy sweaters and cozy mittens soon to be worn.

I was also really pleased with this picture I managed to take of the ring-necked pheasant under the bird feeder earlier this week.  Usually I only manage to take pictures of him through the window, but this time I was outside and the shot is much clearer than usual.

Rule of Thirds
I didn't actually know what the rule of thirds was when I saw it on the Eden Hills prompts.  I had to look it up online.  I learned that it's a rule of photograph composition, and I found it quite interesting. If you don't know about the rule of thirds, you can read about it here.

I took some photographs at the Sackville Waterfowl Park this week in which I tried to follow the rule of thirds.

This is a duck - I think it's a female Gadwall.  She's in the intersection point of the bottom third and the right-most third.  The darker water with the leaves in the foreground is also the bottom third of the picture.  The brighter leaves, which are not in focus, but still provide some interest, are close to that upper left intersection point.

This one was another attempt, although it's not quite as clear on the rules.  The boardwalk is in the bottom third and the sky with some leaves in the top third.  The left and right thirds are less defined, although I was aiming to get some of the white birch trunks to line up correctly.  I think I still need to work on my rule of thirds!

Claire, I had heard of the Rule of Thirds and I guess that I understand it...maybe! I like th cat tail and the pheasant, guinea pigs aren't my thing!

An interesting entry. The pheasant is beautiful, and your picture of him could be seen to obey the rule of thirds with his eye on one of the intersecting lines. I really like the composition of the duck picture: it clearly illustrates how the rule of thirds enhances the shot.
And, of course, Toffee is darling!

My friend was telling me of his son's Aggie (Texas A&M) rule for answering exam questions. If you don't know the answer, tell what you do know.
Sometimes the teacher doesn't bother to read, just sees you wrote something and gives it an okay answer. Other times the teacher know that you do know a little something about the subject matter being tested on and won't completely give an "F" for the question. I think there was more.
Well, my Rule of Thirds was completely off. UNLESS you will give credit for JIM's Rule of Thirds.
Can you spin thread from the weed like you do cotton?

I love guinea pigs. They are just so cute! Love the pheasant. I used to see them in NJ all the time.

Toffee is a cute guy! The cattail looks as warm and fuzzy as the winter approaches - and along Long Island Sound, our winters are not as cold as those in the Great White North...The duck is lovely as is the fading autumnal colors. At least a few leaves remain!

I have trouble with the rule of thirds concept, I think you got it with the duck.

I love your calorie-free version of Toffee! So cute! Great shot of the pheasant, they are quite colorful. You did well with your Rule of Thirds. Looking forward to a second helping of Toffee. :D

Toffee is adorable. The pheasant shot is amazing. I can never seem to get a decent shot. I actually love the rule of thirds for adding a bit of interest to images. You did an excellent job! Thanks so much for joining Friday's Hunt. Hope you have a great week!
