I dyed with dignity

On Sunday, we went to a wool dyeing party at the home of one of our spinning guild members. It was my first experience with dyeing wool roving, and what a fun time it was! I took some pictures of the festivities, and here they are!

Here are a whole lot of painted rovings drying on the fence!

Here are some beautiful hand-dyed yarns!

These rovings are my personal efforts at hand-painting. I was quite pleased with the way they turned out!
Kelly's painted roving is the brownish-green one between the purple and white one and the blue one.

Some folks brought their spinning wheels and did some spinning while waiting for their dyed fiber to dry.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch of smoked chicken and smoked baked beans by one of the hosts! After that we came home and hung our painted fiber (or fibre, depending on your spelling rules!) in the basement to dry. I am quite pleased with the results and can't wait to try spinning it!

An all-around good day!

What fun! I love the fall colors. Perhaps I'll have to have a mini dye day in the Bluff Country...

Ooooh! Love these finished projects. That is one thing I still want to learn: dying wool.

What kinds of dye did you use? Did anyone use Kool Aid, too?

Absolutely beautiful colors! Yes, I'm here in Iowa at last - had a fun trip, even with Emma crying part of each morning. Diane dosed her with children's benedryl (vet's suggestion) at the start of each trip (I failed as a dosing Mom) and Emma eventually settled down, roaming free in the back seat on top of stuff covered with a fleece blanket for her. I love it! It IS Heaven. From my bedroom and living room windows I see stretches of lawn, corn fields, and beyond that the long, low, Loess Hills. Diane is 15 minutes away! Now if only there were some young goats and sheep to look at......

OH - almost forgot - I've added my new email address to my Google account but it won't let me delete the old one. Any suggestions?

Hey Claire,

You asked on my recent post if I've made any peach jam...and I can answer with a resounding YES! lol!
I've made more than 4 gallons of peach jam over the past week and a half...and will probably make more. If you'd like to share your peach ginger jam recipe I'd be very happy! Yummo!

I picked another 40 lbs of peaches yesterday....and there are still more peaches up on my tree!

I sold 30 lbs of peaches tonight and the other day I sold 14 lbs of peaches. I'm happy to be able to make a little extra money, and so are my twinlings who have been helping with the picking.

Good luck with your newest peach trees. I hope the give you a good harvest in the near future.
