Spring, and back to winter

Last week we had some lovely days that felt like spring. I was able to be outside without a heavy coat on, and to enjoy some warmth when I breathed in the spring-like air. It actually got up to 17 degrees Celsius (in the 60s for Fahrenheit) and I was delighted.

Then, yesterday, we went back to winter. The snow began around lunchtime, and it just kept on going.

We ended up with about 8 or 10 inches by this morning. So much for spring!

At least it's sunny today (even if it's only 26 F, -4 °C), so I went out and took some photographs to enjoy the sunshine. I walked over to the birdhouse to take this shot. I can just imagine Mr. Bluebird saying to Mrs. Bluebird: "Look dear, I put in new roof insulation!"

Nearby, there was some of the famous "Iowa cotton crop" growing. Very difficult to harvest!

The ducks enjoyed being out in the sun and having a bath, despite the chilly weather.

And in celebration of the sun being out, one of the hens decided to lay down on a woolly pillow and do some sunbathing.

Oreo says: "It's cold? I didn't notice! Oh, but I've got my warm coat on!"
Kitkat says "I'll make you a sweater if you spin my wool."
And finally (mostly for you, Diane), Stuffin says "Soon everybody, really soon!"

ooooh! Oooh!! Now I see an udder! Go girl, go!

lol on the cotton crop. Too cute. And it's always fun to see your ducks just having fun being ducks.

This time of year is so annoying while Old Man Winter and Princess Spring fight it out for dominance. Go Princess Spring!!

You really got hit with the storm! Here on the "East coast" of Iowa we only got about an inch and a half...that's about an inch and a half too many!

Any time now, Stuffin!

Nice looking sheep! And I hope Stuffin pops soon so you'll stop torturing her with boob shots LOL.

I am so glad you got snow instead of me....though this mud is really trying my patience. Your photos are just awesome but my favorite one is the ducks!! They must bring so many moments of laughter:)

Thanks for not sending that snow our way. We wouldn't have done too well with our project today with all that snow.

Claire, if you're tired of snow, send some down South! Atlanta has had snow as late as March, so I keep hoping. All we've had so far were a couple of very short "snow dot showers".

Stuffin really looks serious about this baby thing - hope it happens soon! And I love seeing how your ducklings have grown. I'm still fascinated by the way all your animals live in peace - never would have expected a chicken to snooze next to a sheep!!!

Oh poor Stuffin! She's huge! Maybe there's 2 in there? We didn't get much snow in Keokuk that I remember, just lots of rain, but I've been gone since Friday. You have such a lovely farm.

Lisa - yes, the udder is definitely there! But still no kid! I wish winter wasn't being such a tease!

Corinne! I am so jealous! Only 1.5 inches would have been much nicer!

Maggie - I swore that storm was never going to stop. It'll take a while to melt in these temps!

Christy - I hope so too!

Kristi - we had the mud before the snow. I know we'll have it again in short order...

Yellow Jacket - no goat names yet. Generally, Kelly gets to name the boy animals and I get to name the girl animals, so we have to wait and see. Personality and/or colour of fur will play a role I'm sure!

Diane - you didn't get any snow because they figured after the Jeep incident, you'd had enough.

Sharrie - any sign of a Holly-baby?

Mom L - "snow dot showers" sound nice. I could handle those instead.

Nancy K - hard to spin that Iowa cotton!

Handmade Sunshine - We were down near Grand River today and they had nearly nothing compared to what we got. This storm seemed centered over our farm, I think!
